NotesSorcha Cribben-Merrill is a singer-songwriter from Maine with a voice of unexpected power and depth of presence. Her stirring songs are steeped in indie folk, blues, jazz and soul.
From haunting ballads to charming vignettes to funk grooves, her songs unveil “a suite of musical styles that shows a wide-ranging songwriting ability. . . witty verses with smart rhymes.” (Portland Phoenix)
Downeast Magazine offers: “It’s refreshing to hear a record devoted to her tranquil side – it only underscores the crazy range of one of Maine’s most versatile troubadours. And there’s nothing quiet about that.”

Tricky Britches to play in Concerts for a Cause series
BRUNSWICK — Tricky Britches will bring their high-energy string band to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brunswick at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, as part of the Concerts for a Cause series to raise money for two local charities.
From their roots of playing foot-stomping old-time fiddle tunes, Tricky Britches has progressed into a fusion of original material, classic bluegrass, country and folk rock. Band members include Tyler Lienhardt on fiddle, Seth Doyle on mandolin, Jed Bresette on bass and Richard Bicknell on banjo.
The story of the band begins in the spring of 2009 when three longtime friends from Gorham decided to take the songs from their back-porch jam sessions and Portland street corner busking to the next step. They produced a CD of old-time tunes and started playing for weddings, parties and contra dances. After adding a banjo to the group, Tricky Britches produced two more CDs featuring their original material.
Their influences include John Hartford, Hank Williams, Bill Monroe, the Stanley Brothers, the Grateful Dead, the Everly Brothers and American traditional folk music. Before the boys knew it, they were playing concerts and the big music festivals. Tricky Britches has played on stages big and small across the U.S. and Europe, but at the end of the day, their favorite show is still on a crowded street corner at midnight.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit Tedford Housing (providing housing and services for the homeless) and Oasis Free Clinics (providing free medical and dental services for those who are uninsured and can’t afford insurance).
Tickets are $15 in advance; $18 at the door; students/children, $5. They are available at the church office, Gulf of Maine Books or online at https://britches.brownpapertickets.com/.

NotesThe Sandy River Ramblers will showcase their Maine-flavored bluegrass songs in concert at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Mt. Vernon Community Center. This will be part of a February Frolix program — an effort to entertain Mt. Vernon residents (and others), especially seniors who might be unable to travel far for entertainment in the winter.
The Ramblers, who have played many times in Mt. Vernon over the past 10 years, have released two CD in recent years; both consist of original songs with Maine themes, including such titles as “Slow Down (You’ll Hit a Moose),” “Boots from L. L. Bean,” “Cry of the Loon,” “The North Pond Hermit,” and “Bear in the Barn.” Some are funny, some are serious, and all feature outstanding singing and exciting virtuoso picking.
Guitarist Stan Keach, a nationally-known bluegrass songwriter and a member of the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame writes most of the songs. Bassist Julie Davenport and Dana Reynolds contribute stunning vocals. Banjoist Bud Godsoe and fiddler Finn Woodruff are excellent instrumentalists.
Admission is free; donations will be accepted. Snacks will be available at intermission. The Mt. Vernon Community Center is at 2 Main St. For more information, call 207-397-2241.

ERIN HARPE & THE DELTA SWINGERS W/ FAT KNUCKLE FREDDY
Erin Harpe & the Delta Swingers were just named New England's best blues band, winning “Blues Artist Of The Year” at the 2019 New England Music Awards! Singer/guitarist Erin Harpe leads the roots-rocking electric band on vocals and lead guitar, playing a mix of styles they call “Boogie, Blues & Beyond”. A rising star in the roots and blues scene with a growing fan base around the world, she’s been called “one of the most dynamic, talented and exciting roots rocking blues women on the scene” by Living Blues Magazine, and has been compared to legendary blues women like Bonnie Raitt and Rory Block. The Midwest Record even called her “Bonnie Raitt on modern performance enhancing drugs!” The “modern blues mama for our times” has had an exciting year, from winning awards, to competing solo at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis (where she made it to the Semi-Finals!), to touring around the US – with stops at the Rhythm & Roots Festival (RI), Tall City Blues Fest (TX), Musikfest (PA) and Paw Paw Fest (OH), as well as in the UK! This holiday season Erin and the band celebrate with a limited-edition vinyl release of their album “The Christmas Swing” and a string of holiday parties.
“The Christmas Swing” is Erin Harpe & the Delta Swingers' self-produced, critically-acclaimed (anti-) Christmas album. This season on VizzTone/Juicy Juju Records, the album will be released on limited edition vinyl! The album, which has been called “sassy” and “un-traditional”, made it to #2 last season (Eric Clapton was #5!) on the Roots Music Report’s Top 50 Holiday Album Charts, AND #17 on the Living Blues Charts last December! Featuring ten songs – including a couple of Erin’s originals and her own arrangements of traditionals and songs by Chuck Berry, Bessie Smith, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Leadbelly, and more – the album is a great alternative seasonal romp, chock full of hooky blues-guitar-fueled gems that you’ll want to listen to each year as the holidays approach – in fact Steve Jones of Blues Blast Magazine says, “I will be giving it many more spins this holiday season and beyond.”

NotesBased out of Portland, Maine, Kenya Hall has shared stages with incredible local and national acts such as The Roots, Dr. John, Lettuce, Jaw Gems, Rustic Overtones, Adam Deitch, Jon Fishman, Nigel Hall, Shemekia Copeland, and Fred Wesley.
As one-of-a-kind as it gets, Kenya’s musical artistry weaves together indomitable vocals with a fierce blend of soul and funk delivered with a rare energy that leaves every audience she sings to better for having been a part of it.
Drawing her writing and performing influences from Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, and Sharon Jones, Kenya is not only relevant in what she says, but poignant in how she communicates it. Leaning heavily on Soul, Hip Hop, Funk, and the seed of what makes a rock and roll artist — Kenya is here to deeply inspire and elevate the world around her.
